A Teaspoon of Neutron Star Would Outweigh All of Humanity
Neutron star matter is so dense that a single teaspoon of it on Earth would weigh billions of tons.
When a massive star dies in a supernova, its core can collapse into a neutron star β an object more massive than the Sun, packed into a sphere the size of a city.
The result: a teaspoon of that material, brought to Earth, would weigh anywhere from several hundred million to over a billion tons β more than the mass of all of humanity combined.
It sounds absurd. Yet it follows directly from basic physics: electrons and protons get crushed together into neutrons there, eliminating nearly all the "empty space" typical of ordinary atomic matter.
The practical (hypothetical) consequence: no known material could hold that teaspoon together β it would instantly collapse under its own unimaginable weight.
