Particles behave differently the moment nobody is watching them
The classic double-slit experiment shows that the very act of measurement changes how particles behave — it doesn't just describe them.
In the double-slit experiment, single electrons fired one at a time through two slits build up an interference pattern on the screen — the kind of pattern only waves are supposed to make, even though the electrons arrive one by one.
Here's the twist that has broken plenty of physicists' brains: when scientists place a detector to check which slit each electron actually passed through, the interference pattern vanishes — the particles start behaving like ordinary, classical objects instead of waves.
The act of "observing" (measuring) physically changes the outcome of the experiment — this isn't about an observer's consciousness in some mystical sense, it's that every measurement physically interacts with the quantum system.
It remains one of the most fundamentally strange, fully experimentally confirmed results in all of physics — and philosophers and physicists still debate exactly what "happens" to a particle before it gets measured.
